Bartimaeus means “son of Timaeus,” a name that could suggest either honor or uncleanness—“son of treasure” or “son of trash.” The crowd saw a nuisance by the roadside. Jesus saw a man worth stopping for. He still does.

Day 288: How I Love You (A Prayer of thanks from Mark 5)
In Mark 5, Jesus pauses on the way to help an important man in order to listen to an overlooked woman tell “the whole truth.” This prayer of thanks celebrates the Savior who isn’t in a hurry, who listens, and who still calls us sons and daughters.
